PeopleStories is very proud to share that Victoria Miloschewsky, the Founder and CEO of this charity, was recognised as one of 100 Iconic Influencers Singapore by Aesthetics International Council for Progressive Women, AICPW SG.

This is Vic's story and how she is serving a purpose in life.

"I recently had, for the 3rd time in a decade, major cancer surgery and some well-meaning friends told me, 'You need to slow down!'. But I said to myself, 'They don't understand. Knowing how fragile life can be and how fortunate I am, I choose to continue serving a purposeful life.'

I always had it in me, to see the positive side, to share and to look after others. I grew up in a working-class family and two of my sisters couldn't complete school but had to support the family at a young age. Education is therefore always very important to me. Beyond the obvious benefit of better employment, education uplifts so much more.

In 2017 I founded PeopleStories which focuses on education in Cambodia. We are relatively young and pride ourselves to take no short cuts in making real impact to the communities in need.

We now actively work with 8 schools in rural Cambodia looking after some 3,000 students and teachers.

Let me share some of my favourite stories how we influence and activate long-lasting changes.
Real charity work has nothing to do with feeling-good tourism. I have witnessed sewing machines being dropped off in a deserving community only to gather dust for years after.  Why?  Because there is no one who thought about teaching them how to sew!  That is why we focus on empowering skills, influencing behavior and mind set for sustainable and responsible change.

Some time ago, one of our schoosl was ready to learn about IT and 190 students encountered technology for the first time. Instead of “air-dropping” a bunch of laptops, we chose to work hard with the willing teachers as champions to embrace the new skills first. This active partnership amplifies the importance of education and change in their communities. This is real and lasting change.
With decades of HR background, striving for greater equality is in my blood. We established a Women Empowerment Project in a village where local women got together to design and produce upcycle bags. As a start, we went to local markets and construction sites to collect canvas wastes such as rice or cement bags, later we designed and repurposed the seemingly useless materials into fashionable bags. It sounds like a small thing to do but the boost in confidence, the appreciation and the ability to generate income for the family is incredible. The resulting ripple effect of many small but consistent and value driven changes is what will strengthen local women and their communities.
