2023 Writing Competition
Literacy, the ability to read and write, is the most fundamental skill all children need to master. We at PeopleStories Charity strongly believe that literacy skills are imperative to children’s success at school. They are also one of the key elements to stop students dropping out from school or having to repeat the same grade. This year, we are excited to host yet another Writing Competition with children in the Bakong District and even more excited to expand it to both Khmer and English as well as all school divisions (primary, secondary and high schools). It is delightful to receive a total of 123 articles for the competition. We are so proud of all the children’s effort and there is no shortage of creativity and passion noted from their writing. Congratulations to the following winners of the 2023 PeopleStories Writing Competition. These winners will receive their certificate of accomplishment, a gift and most excitedly joining a trip to Siem Reap town. |

A New Level Of Scholarship - STEM for Girls
Girls and women are still significantly underrepresented in many ways including not only access to education, meaningful employment but also achieving senior leadership roles in the workplace. In our rural communities, we often witness under-aged mothers which leads directly to greater physical risks as well as extended social issues including lower educational levels, financial crisis and unstoppable poverty cycle.
Giving women and young girls equal opportunity to pursue STEM (Sicence, Technology, Engineering, Mathermatic) education as well as 'future of work' helps enhance inclusion and reduce gender inequality. PeopleStories believed in equality and since established, in late 2020, STEM for Girls Scholarship. S4G is the top level of our School for Life program. It enables selected high potential girls to obtain STEM education.

“What can a young charity like PeopleStories do to help make more progress in sustainability?” The answer came naturally…we can start the ball rolling by creating awareness, imparting knowledge and initiating some actions. It all comes back to EDUCATION! A “Zero Waste” approach conserves natural resources and reduces pollution from extraction, manufacturing and disposal. We, at PeopleStories Charity, strongly believe that “Zero Waste” not only protects the environment, but also benefits communities and supports a strong local economy. We also believe learning should be fun! The "Zero Waste" ompetition is to encourage and motivate our local scholarship students to use their creativity to repurpose waste that they can find locally into a new useable item or an art piece. |

COVID19 and Learning in Rural Cambodia
Schools and students have been affected particularly hard in rural Cambodia. Teacher Sarit shares with us some of the insights what school closures mean in reality and how teachers try their best to recover from COVID19 disruption in an environment without access to internet.
We at PeopleStories strongly believes in making a real difference for the students and communities we serve. One of the ways how we achieve that is by working very closely with teachers in Cambodia and today we speak with teacher Sarit about the impact of COVID19 on schools and learning in rural Cambodia. Teacher Sarit works at Ta Ey High School and teaches English for grades 8 and 10. He is a strong believer in education and has been an invaluable supporter of PeopleStories. |
Bringing 100 Dreams To Life
School for Life Ceremonies - December 2019
|
One of the most tangible examples of our action is the annual gifting of School for Life scholarships. Just a couple of weeks ago, we held multiple school ceremonies to inspire and celebrate the new school year. More importantly, we were enabling the hope for the now 100 students to pursue their dreams. It is absolutely amazing to see how this has changed over years. Obviously, the number of students and schools we work with keeps growing but it’s the ownership of students and the teachers role modelling their positive energy that impress us the most! We love it when students have and show their ownership for what they do! |
It takes a lot of heart to build a future
There are four major elements of School for Life and we at PeopleStories Foundation believe they are crucial in building a culture of lifelong learning for the children of Siem Reap. See our latest effort to set positive changes in motion.
See the signing and dancing talents from our wonderful students. Cheers to the Rai Family who absolutely ignited the energy and engagement from the students in June 2019.

Music connects people and crosses boundaries. Change Makers from MacEwan University completed a school refresh project and music teaching in May 2019.
|
Our Chief Change Maker, Victoria Keeys, had conducted a couple of Parent-Teacher workshops in Siem Reap in May 2019.
|
In our last trip to Siem Reap in April 2019, our team of Change Makers ensured to further develop these four important elements to help students complete school.
