My dream is to build a good family house... something I never had

 "Everyone calls me ‘Yeay’ here in the village, which means ‘Grandmother’ in Khmer.  When I was 13, I lost both of my parents.  One night, they were taken away for execution in the nearby killing field.  I was extremely scared.  I had to hide in

the village with my other siblings and some of them were just babies.  We were very poor, and 5 out of my 8 siblings died young due to illness or didn’t have enough food to eat. Therefore, I had to quit school very young.  20 years ago, my husband ran away from the village and I had to bring up my daughter and son by myself. Sadly, my daughter died young due to illness.  To earn a few dollars per week, I use dried leaves to make 'Rom-Jach' (floor mat).  I have 2 grandsons and I hope they will finish school and achieve their dreams.  As for me, my dream is to build a good family house, something I never had”
